You HAVE to read book 1 to understand what is going on. This is NOT a standalone.
It is a series.
I just finished reading Midnight Star and it started off kind of slow. I was nervous that we were going to get stuck in this new land and have to meet a ton of new characters, but it wasn’t too bad. We are in this other location for maybe 1/3 of the book. Then everything else is back to the 7 kingdoms. Fen is still in the story, so don’t worry about that (I was for a bit). We get Fen and Ari’s POVs mostly, and a few of Asher’s POV are thrown in too.
Sometimes I don’t know who is good and who is bad in this story, which I guess is a good thing. I mean Ari goes with her gut most of the time, but gets stuck having to pick the lesser of two evils.
This is not your typical good little girl that needs to be constantly saved by a paranormal being. It is a good girl that is emotional, physically, and mentally strong. She doesn’t let people steam roll her, nor does she waver with her heart. She is a true friend and honest to her word. Very likeable protagonist.
“The magic of our people is dying,” She says. “When the demons came from the sky and slaughtered the High Fae, the Spirits left us.”
Fen. I mean OMG. That guy just can’t get a break. At the end of the story finding out who and what his true identity is and leaving us hanging was So NOT COOL! After about half way through the book, I couldn’t put it down. I was sucked into this constant tug of war between the Durid (Fae gods) and the vampire prince brothers. Asher has so many people fooled, but I am wondering what he would pick if he didn’t have his father and brothers breathing down his neck.
I am surprised by how many same-sex relationships are in this story. We have Fae, Vampires and humans all in love with each other. It seems like there is a constant theme that it doesn’t matter what - your exterior look may be; your back ground; where you came from; or, who you are united with – it is all about what your heart is and who your soul is connected too. We get that with Fen and Ari; Asher and Varius; Madrid and Oren…etc.
So hang tight fans. If you read book one and are beginning or just finished book 2 the series is going to keep on growing. I asked our authors how many books the are predicting for this series and their responds "10-20+ Books. Wow we got a ways to go. If I find out anything else, I will keep you all posted.
