Filled with magic, thrilling adventure, and sweet romance, Elementals is the first in a new series that fans of mythology will love!
When Nicole Cassidy moves from sunny Georgia to gloomy New England, the last thing she expects is to learn that her homeroom is a cover for a secret coven of witches. Even more surprisingly ... she's apparently a witch herself. Despite doubts about her newfound abilities, Nicole is welcomed into this ancient circle of witches and is bedazzled by their powers--and, to her dismay, by Blake--the school's notorious bad-boy.
Girls who get close to Blake wind up hurt. His girlfriend Danielle will do anything to keep them away, even if she must resort to using dark magic. But the chemistry between Blake and Nicole is undeniable, and despite wanting to protect Nicole from Danielle's wrath, he finds it impossible to keep his distance.
When the Olympian Comet shoots through the sky for the first time in three thousand years, Nicole, Blake, Danielle, and two others in their homeroom are gifted with mysterious powers over the elements. But the comet has another effect--it opens the portal to the prison world that has contained the Titans for centuries. After an ancient monster escapes and attacks Nicole and Blake, it's up to them and the others to follow the clues from a cryptic prophecy so that they can save their town ... and possibly the world.
When you start reading YA fantasy or paranormal YA
you need to be aware for the few common
concepts that will most likely be in the novel.
a coming of age
overcoming of internally and externally fears
The Prophecy of Shadows
has all these and a few more that I wasn’t expecting.
I first came across this book on Netgalley. I thought it was going to be mainly about witches, but the history of how witches came about gave it a mythological flare. I am all about Greek mythology, so I became really captivated by it. Our main character Nicole is who the story is mainly focused around. Like many other YA paranormal/fantasy stories, she is the new girl in town that ends up having special abilities that were not prominent till she moved.
One of the first people that catches her eye is the handsome boy in her homeroom class. She feels a strong pull towards him. She discovers that he has a ‘bad-boy’ reputation, and so does his girlfriend. She is warned to stay away from him (Blake) because his girlfriend (Danielle) is possessive. Danielle has been rumored of using her magical abilities as revenge against any female she perceives may be flirting with Blake. Nicole tries to stay clear of him, but Blake doesn’t make it easy. Their connection is strong, but personally I do not like that Blake is eyeing Nicole while still in a relationship with Danielle.
Nicole makes friends with two other students. One being Kate. She is a rule follower and really smart. She helps Nicole into the transition of the new school and special curriculum. Chris is a nice athletic guy that is also a witch that she talks to. All these students share the same homeroom class and learn about their special skills.
Weird things begin to happen to Nicole. She is learning how to harness energy colors around her. She picks up on it quickly, more quickly than any of the other students. The energy she harnesses at some points goes overboard.
Her teacher and other students have suspicions about her, but no one is sure. While on a class assignment, her, Blake, Chris, Kate, and Danielle, are placed in a group. During this assignment, all of their lives begin to change.
A prophecy that is over 300 years old is given to Nicole. She shares it with the group and thus begins their mini quest.
There are MANY Similarities that I caught from other YA books. There were some big points that made this book stand out on its own. But I personally couldn’t get over the large amount of similarities
Now is this me saying you shouldn’t read it. No. I actually enjoyed it, just as much as I enjoyed the series listed above. I am just giving all you readers a heads up.
If you like Mythology and
a little bit of Magic
then you will enjoy this new series.
The next book comes out in a few months and I will let you all know.
I WILL be reading it.
So stay tuned.
